Week 2 – Artist – Leite & Donovan

Leite and Donovan were both a great sculpture artists with both having their own MFA at different schools. While Leite was a Brazil sculpture artist, Donovan was an American sculpture artist. Even though they both were a excellent awarded female artists, their works focus on different explorations. Leite's artwork explore the large scale of physical presence of human body, while Donovan's artwork focus on transformative effects of accumulation and aggregation. Their birthplace and where they got their education from were also different. Leite is born and grew up in Brazil and studied sculpture at Chelsea College of Art in United Kingdom, while Donovan was born and grew up in the United State and got her MFA at Virginia Commonwealth University. Their current work base were also different, Leite is currently residing in Italy and Donovan is working at New York. The materials they both artists used were also not really similar. While Leite mostly use hydrocal, FGR-95, plaster, glass fibre, steel, and pigmet to develop her artwork, Donovan used mostly everyday objects such as tar paper, Scotch tape, or drinking draws.
If I were to start a sculpture or installation career, I would choose Donovan as my role model. Because of her artwork which explores the transformative effects was so interesting, and the materials she used such as tar paper, Scotch tape or drinking water are able to be recycled, and easily to find. I think that her artworks, which often take on biomorphic qualities or evoke natural phenomena, from fog and rock formations to fungal blooms and stalagmites, are so unique and amazing.
